The first port of call for the day was Culzean Autoclassica which was being held at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire. We started off from Cumbernauld just after 9am and headed by the fastest and most direct route which consisted mainly of motorways and main roads to the venue. This part of the country must be one of the worst from a drivers point of view because everywhere you look there are average speed cameras. This is possibly why we rarely venture down this way. Anyway we arrived about 11am and after parking the cars spent the next few hours wandering around the castle grounds looking at the various cars on display and browsing through the traders' stalls. Rather than wait to get caught up in the queue of traffic trying to get back out on to the main road, we left a little early and since it was a lovely day decided to take the coast road back home. We stopped in Ayr for a bite to eat and kept the water on our left all the way up to the Erskine Bridge and from there went down through Bearsden and out to Strathblane before going our separate ways. The sun never stopped shining from start to finish and our hoods were down the whole way. Distance covered was approximately 165 miles. |
